Mental Health Court

The Mobile Mental Health Court is a specialized accountability court that strives to provide treatment for those whose mental illness has resulted in criminal behavior. This court is a collaborative effort between the Mental Health Court Judge, Altapointe, the District Attorney, the Public Defense Attorney and the Mobile Community Corrections Center to identify appropriate candidates and address the needs of each case. The program offers treatment, counseling, intense supervision, drug testing and other services to those who qualify in an attempt to reduce recidivism and enhance community safety.  While focusing on treatment as an alternative to incarceration, this judicially supervised program will provide participants with the opportunity to lessen run ins with law enforcement, restore families, and successfully reintegrate participants into the community.

Requirements for Mental Health Court include:

  • 18 years or older
  • Felony or misdemeanor offender
  • Must have a verifiable history or diagnosis of a qualifying/serious mental illness
